Summer Newsletter

Is summer ever going to get going and stay going?   It’s like a rollercoaster up here in the mountains.  Blisteringly (is that a word?) hot one day followed by storms the next.

Steve was doing an installation yesterday (July 11th) of a 6KW Fireview further up our mountains, and the lovely lady client said that she wouldn’t be lighting it until she needed it, usually September.   Goodness me what a few hundred metres of altitude makes! We are at 550 metres and in a normal year our 9KW Fireview wouldn’t be lit until end of October, and our central heating (wood burning cooker) wouldn’t be lit until late November.   (Hardy souls that we are – or is it just mean?)  The point is, that if you too are living in a colder area of France, and need a wood burner then now really is the time to think about buying one before the panic season starts.   September through to Christmas is really our busiest time and it might be a good idea to get in first or face having a long wait.  Our factory has recently doubled its capacity, but the stoves are hand finished to order, so there is always a wait albeit, not so long now we hope.
Here’s the bad news...
...Woodwarm UK announced a 3% increase in all stoves from this month.  The first since 2013, so I suppose we’ve done well.

The good news…
… is that Steve and I have decided that because of this we will keep a 10% discount running on all the stoves for the foreseeable future for everyone that settles their invoice within 7 days of delivery.   Small comfort we know, but this could mean a big saving for those buying big stoves/stoves with boilers.

Don’t forget …
…at the very least to have your chimney swept before the next season, even if you own one of our stoves, where deposits are generally burned off, you still have to have the chimneys swept to comply with your house insurance.   Insurance companies in France are like those the world over, they will get out of paying in any way that they can.

If you need…
… any carbon monoxide detectors, smoke detectors, or moisture detectors, please get in touch as we have a small stock here.

And finally…
… as always, if you need any advice or want to buy one of our great stoves, please get in touch, phone, email or letter, we are always happy to help even if you choose to go elsewhere, it’s important to us that you get what YOU want.

Spring Newsletter 2016

Spring 2016 Newsletter

Well winter wasn’t so bad was it?  For us in the south it was surprisingly mild, and hardly any snow, so different to previous winters.   We haven’t finished with our wood burner yet; we keep it ticking away all day as the evenings are still a little fresh.  Our central heating, run by our faithful wood burning cooker has been laid off already. Hopefully there will be no surprises to come!

Now is the time to think about booking your chimney sweep for a spring clean of your flue to leave it free of any tarry deposits and help extend its life.
  • Clean up your stove after the last fire of the season making sure there is no possibility of having damp ash lingering all summer.
  • We tend to leave the air inlets open during the hot/humid season.
  • I also give ours a light covering of stove blacking to bring it back to showroom appearance. Try HOTSPOT, which is available from Amazon.
  • Check the fireboards, they should give you a good number of years’ service, cracks will appear, but that’s normal and won’t affect performance, but make sure you haven’t been rough when popping in the logs, and that they are still intact.

For those who would like to buy a new wood burning stove, now is the time to start the process. At this time of year, the lead in time is less and it’s easier to have one fitted in good weather rather than having to dodge rain or snow showers in November or December.  It’s very difficult to think of next winter, but it will be here before we know it.

Many people making enquiries ask the same question, why buy a Wood burning stove and why Woodwarm?

For centuries fireplaces have been the focus of every home, providing light, warmth and entertainment that our forefathers worshipped in yore. Fires dispel the gloom of cold damp winter afternoons and bring warmth and cheer to the heart of the home.

An open fire has historically been associated with a warm chimney and, on testing, it can often be shown that 90% of the heat from the fire can be lost to the chimney and the outside air. Woodwarm stoves are safe, single self-contained units which eliminate the waste and put the heat back to the room where it belongs.

All Woodwarm stoves feature an excellent air wash system. After circulating the stove, pre heated air flushes down over the double glazed door keeping the glass perfectly clean at all times, even at low temperatures. Superior clean burn efficiency means that not only is more heat achieved on less fuel, but combustion products in the flue are also reduced, causing fewer flue problems. Reduction in pollution combined with more efficiency creates a really environmentally friendly device.

Woodwarm Stoves... if you have one, you will probably buy another one. (As have 2 of our first ever customers at Woodwarm Stoves France this Spring) If you don't have one, here is why we think you should!

Woodwarm have dedicated over 30 years of production to their customers. They pride themselves on the ability to respond to both customer needs and government legislations while using cutting edge technology to ensure reliability and workmanship throughout.   They have therefore become a market leader in Clean Burning Wood and Multi Fuel heating.
Why Woodwarm? They are not the cheapest fire this they are the first to admit, they cannot compete with the mass-produced Chinese market, and so because of this they won’t. Some of their fires are still in use some 30 years on, what else do you have that's still working well at 30 years old? They know how to keep the glass clean, they know how to get the maximum use from your fuel, they are unrivalled in boiler, canopy, fuel, colour, leg, handles, plinth and pedestal options hand made in the UK. You will buy a house for comfort and as an investment, your choice in a stove should be the same.

Here at Woodwarm Stoves France we can supply these wonderful stoves throughout France and install them within a radius of 2 hours travelling from our base north of Carcassonne. We do however have a small network of installers in other regions and have recently joined forces with Stove Studio in Normandy to offer reciprocal installation services in each other’s 2-hour radius of work.  If you want a Woodwarm Stove, then we will try to help you find an installer if we cannot do the work.

We are here to offer advice to anyone thinking of installing a wood burning stove, its free and unpressurised.

Give us a call on 04 68 47 05 44 or 06 04 14 57 51 or email on stoves@woodwarmstovesfrance.com

Winter 2016 Newsletter

Winter 2016 Newsletter

Happy New Year to you all from Steve and Tina.

The fantastic little Foxfire

The mild Christmas was certainly a nice surprise; heating bills are down in our house as a result of the ‘warm’ weather over the last few months.  However, the rain has arrived and although the temperatures are not that low, the damp makes it feel colder.    I feel nonetheless that the proper winter will hit us sooner or later.

How many people can remember the February of 2012?  We had 2 weeks of -20 degrees.   A lot of homes had burst pipes, burst radiators, cracked toilets (yuck) and basins.  Granted many of these were holiday homes where people had gone off without draining their systems or leaving a radiator on if they could.   The best advice is that if you are regularly away from home during the winter, drain your system down, put salt in your loos and if possibly leave an electric radiator on with a frost stat setting.   If you have central heating with water filled radiators, arrange with your local heating engineer to put anti freeze in the system.   Don’t get caught out it’s an expensive business if you do.

Our autumn season was good in another way, we have had enquires from all over France and have been selling Woodwarm stoves like mad to all nationalities.  Their reputation is growing at a fast pace here and many of our enquiries are through recommendations; some of our customers have become our unofficial ambassadors.   You know who you are:  For which we say a big thank you.

We are pleased to say that everyone who wanted a Woodwarm installed for Christmas has been satisfied whether Steve or one of  our associate installers have done the work. Big thank you to Martin Ball from the Poitiers region, (contact: martinball318@gmail.com)  Neil  Hutchinson from the Eymoutiers area and Andrew Brunsden from the Charente.

We are always looking out for even more Heating Engineers to become associated with us, particularly in the Northern Dordogne, Brittany and Eastern France.    As we live in the Carcassonne area, Steve cannot do all the installations in France, so his area is normally limited to a maximum 1.5 hours journey time.  He will however, install further afield where there is more than 1 customer in that area who can be served at the same time.  He is always willing to help where there is a ‘supply’ only, by talking to the customer or to the installer (French or English).

The waiting list for a stove is now down to about 3-4 weeks from order, so you are not too late to get a stove in for the worst part of winter.

Our prices range from just under £1000 for the smaller stoves to around £2000 for the monster 20KW’s (dependant on the top you want – it’s just under the £2000 for a flat top 20KW) We can also supply double sided and double depth stoves.  The 6/12KW being the standard, but we can price up for a larger model.  All the stoves are hand finished to order, and can be supplied with different tops and sides and also different colours and there is a brass option for the handles and catches.

These stoves are an investment, but a quality investment that will last you for years and years.   There is a 10 year guarantee with each one supplied.  Ours is now into its 10th winter and going strong.   Steve visited a customer in the summer who had been using his Fireview for 15 years…all that was wrong was that the door rope needed replacing and 1 fire-board.  Our stove is a 9KW Fireview exactly as you see on the link below, which is a Youtube demonstration of their controllability.

This brings me to spare parts.

We carry fireboards in stock, not needed very often, but  here when you need one or more.   We also carry carbon monoxide detectors, smoke detectors, moisture testers, and chimney and stove body thermometers.  Contact us for prices and postage.

Burn wood that is less than 18% moisture.  That’s for any stove not just ours.   If you don’t then you will end up with gooey tar clogging your chimney and stove, not good for performance and can be dangerous and at the very least a devil for your ramoneur to clean.
Smoke detectors are obligatory in France.  Carbon Monoxide detectors are highly recommended for obvious reasons,.
We are always willing to chat and help with any decisions about buying a wood burning stove, even if at the end your decision is to go with another manufacturer.    We are at the end of a phone or you can email us, our contact details are on the website - click at the top of the page.
